Every time I revisit this beautiful image, I see something different. The surreal power of this, mixed with your story does make it a bit on the spooky side, but beautiful too.

Karen Slagle replied:

Thank you, Bunny, need to again and see if the screech owls are still there so I can be spooked again.

There is a subtle surreal quality I experience in this unique image, Karen. I guess the experience you described in the description is even conveyed here. :) Your lighting technique is a amazing and the establishment of mood is splendid! Fine work indeed! L/F

Karen Slagle replied:

Thank you Kellice, I'm so happy you like this image. The night was beautiful if not a little spooky.

Screech Owls can make a person jump out of their skin many times if a person doesn't know what they are. Any night shots require a buddy, period. LOL! See, I'm a bigger chicken. I love this gorgeous work. The constellation really makes this shine. Outstanding work. :o)

Karen Slagle replied:

Thank you Bunny, need to go back and see if the screech owls are still there. My husband goes with me, nights are spooky.

Artist's Description

This old grain elevator is close to the small town of Happy, Texas and is the second capture of an earlier image titled Abandoned 1. This capture was looking more to the south in which I managed to capture the Milky Way on the left side. It was kinda creepy around here, no one around, the wind was blowing just enough to be scarey and then all of a sudden we heard a flutter of wings and a loud screech. I about jumped out of my skin, I just knew the boogie man was going to get us. It happened several time and we finally figured out it was a pair of screech owls, they were swooping close to see what we were doing and I'm sure, hoping for a meal.
