Description
This image of a vaquera and garrocha pole was taken in the Texas panhandle. She was practicing for an upcoming clinic.
La Garrocha
Tthe garrocha pole is used in Spain by the vaquero (cowboys) to move cattle around rather than roping. This form or working cattle is from where the term cow poke originates.
The art of working with the garrocha pole, about 12 feet in length, has been developed into an artistic skillful performance! Exhibitions are breathtaking to watch.

Here I grew up in cow country and had never seen one of these before. I learned something today. I like the idea better than the roping. I could never get anything slinging a rope. But I could sure get the cattle with a stick. :o) Gorgeous capture Karen.
Karen Slagle replied:
Thank you, Bunny. This is rather foreign to Texas but it's starting to spread this way from California.

Nice action shot and I loved the description. If she needs help, I can send my two cattle dogs. All they have here are baby bunnies to herd! f/v

This is a capture that makes me feel a little homesick. I usually have no desire to return to Wyoming, but this sure tugs on the heartstrings. Excellent work my friend.

Thank you Phyllis, I'm glad I saw her, have never seen the pole play before but have heard about it...
