Description
I took this image with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 105, 2.8 macro lens. This was taken in Texas in a neighbor's cactus garden. He has a collection of cacti from many places.
This would look awesome in your Adobe home or a home decorated in the popular Santa Fe Style of the American Southwest.
The Claret Cup , Echinocereus Triglochidiatus cactus is also called a hedgehog, mojave mound or kingcup cactus. The name is from the Greek, echinos, meaning "a hedgehog" and cereus meaning, "a wax taper". These names refer to the plant's spiny resemblance to a hedgehog ( or so the early Europeans thought) and the plant's shape, respectively. Trilochididus means " three barbed bristle" and refers to the straight spines arranged in clusters of three. Also, called Claret cup cactus, after the reddish, cup-shaped flowers

These cacti are native to the North American Deserts such as the Chihuahuan, the Great Basin, the Mojave and the Sonoran.
