Description
The Cowgirl.....She rides, she ropes, she brands cattle, she rides broncs, she trains horses, she rodeos. The cowgirl can do and does do the same work as a man around the ranch. However, she does everything with finesse and not brawn. Horses generally like a woman rider better than a man. They talk softer, they are softer in the use of their hands and can talk a horse into working for her by her kindness.-------------------------------------------------This gal had her rope ready and was going after the calf. Her well trained quarter horse follows her lead thru the use of her seat and legs. He aims to please.----------------------------------------I took this image at a ranch rodeo in the Texas panhandle. I used my Nikon D700 and my Nikkor 28-200 lens. I turned this to black and white to add drama.

Fabulous action shot. Love this and your story is so true. Most of the girls would rope the calves for branding and castration of the males that wouldn't be kept. They would cook up the Rocky Mountain Oysters (which I still won't touch) for the evening meal.
Karen Slagle replied:
Thank you Bunny. I've eaten RM oysters several times and I did once like them but the last ones I ate did not taste so good, maybe I didn't like them as much as I thought...

I totally love this photo Karen, and your amazing post work is outstanding!!! Your description of a cowgirl is so impressive!!! I love horses but I have never been to a rodeo!!! I can see so much detail in the animals muscles that shows so much strength. The rider looks so confident of her gentle control!!! (sorry to be so wordy) L/F
