Description
A cowboy rides his horse through the fall grasses and cottonwood trees along the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River. This part of the Texas panhandle was once home to the Comanche Indians. The last battle of the Red River Wars in the 1870's was fought in this beautiful canyon. The Indians were sent to a reservation in Oklahoma, a very sad day indeed. All their ponies, several hundred were rounded up in this canyon and were taken down stream about 60 miles, surrounded in Tule Canyon by the US soldiers and slaughtered. I have been at the site, on a private ranch, and have felt the spirits of these ponies, so sad. My heart is always with the Native Americans, as I too carry some of the same blood.

I really liked this capture, but I was shocked at the history. What a horrible thing to do. My Native American blood came from the Cherokee side. Though you could never tell by looking at me. LOL! A fabulous work Karen.
Karen Slagle replied:
Thank you Bunny, it was horrible. Stuff like this happened to all the tribes, the Cherokee were sent on the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma, where many still live.
